How did your school foster an environment of inclusivity and appreciation, ensuring that everyone feels valued and respected?

We have a responsibility to make inclusion a daily thought, so we can get rid of the word ‘inclusion’, and oppress the usage of the word ‘oppression’. Inclusivity refers to the accommodation of everyone, irrespective of their race, ability or gender.

A community can be made stronger and more effective if everyone is involved in it. This also applies to education. Inclusion is a crucial need for a student to develop the right attitude, values and skills required to grow in their life. According to a study, 1 student in every 5 students was mistreated by adults in schools because of their race, culture or ethnicity. Furthermore, it can be observed that students belonging to higher grades tend to have a less favorable perception of inclusivity.

Our school, DPS Dubai, has taken the necessary steps to ensure that everyone is treated equally and that no one is left behind. It’s a supportive setting which has offered students a comprehensive and challenging education to prepare them for success in a constantly changing world. Our school has a strong anti- bullying policy. Bullying is not tolerated, along with stereotypes and prejudice. The faculty ensures that everyone’s learning pace is the same, and whoever needs help receives it. Anti-Bullying and Happiness campaigns are held every year to discourage discriminatory beliefs and encourage student well-being.

The counselling in the school ensures that if anyone is feeling insecure about their identity or are being subjected to discrimination, they will receive professional help from the school. The counselors are very helpful and understanding, and try their best to make

Our school has several specialists who cater to a range of needs. These specialists cover areas such as multi-disciplinary special needs, counseling for emotional behavior in primary and secondary grades, identification, and assessment for students facing learning challenges like Dyslexia, having trouble with communication and learning skills, as well as addressing sensory integration disorders.

So, to conclude, our school promotes happiness and inclusivity through a welcoming environment, diversity campaigns, and strict anti-bullying policies, fostering a sense of involvement amongst students.

As David Sikhosana once said, “Growth is only possible when there is inclusivity”.
