Fall seven times, stand up eight

Exam – The sheer thought of this word sends a shiver down the spine. Results day was just around the corner. We were finally going to receive our final scores for grade 9. Everybody in the room was nervous, and some even hopeful- all hoping that they get the results they aimed for. I got my results and was astounded to see them. They were not what I quite expected. I was indeed disheartened and believed this was the end of it.

I was dismayed on my way home, and considering the fact I had started high school, I had lost all hope and started thinking that this is how high school will be and as we move up to a different grade every year, the exams will be even more difficult and I believed that I would then never be able to achieve the grades I always desired.

I was determined to work extremely hard, especially on my weaker subjects to not let it happen again. Fast forward a year later, I was able to achieve the great scores I dreamed of in grade 10. I had realized that the upcoming years in my school life will be crucial for me in the future. I was resolute to not giving up till my final year, even when the pandemic hit and altered the course of our lives. It was very vital for me as well to ensure my well-being was on check during the pandemic and stay committed to my goals. I stood my ground and promised myself to be committed in everything I do.

We have all heard numerous quotes on hard work, will and determination and how important it is to apply it in every aspect of our lives. And it holds true to every extent. The first step to working towards your aim is to prepare yourself with a mindset and convince yourself entirely to achieve your aim. It is not, however, always very easy. The quote, ‘Fall seven times, stand up eight’, stands very close to me. This proverb originates from Japanese and it means choosing to never give up faith, and to always do your best for more. It means that your aim isn’t on the reality in front of you, but on a greater and superior vision that you may not have achieved yet. It doesn’t matter how many times you fail, what matters is how many times you stand up again. That is what the quote is inferring. It is so important to keep trying and be the best version of yourself. Do more each time and improve yourself.

Exams are a part and parcel of every student’s life. These are the initial and most important challenges in a person’s life. Every individual passes through them and always aspires to do their best. There is a possibility that you may not ace with flying colors in every examination. There are ups and downs throughout life, and everyone goes through this. But it does not mean that we give up. In fact, each failure is a lesson for every person. Failing an exam, for example, makes us aware about our weaknesses and short comings and lets us know where we have to improve, so that we can work harder and become better in the subject area where we were struggling earlier.

There is also a great saying that we have all heard frequently: Practice makes a man perfect. Yes indeed. The more practice, the better the results. Whenever possible, taking up mock tests and will help in knowing the understanding level of the topic. It is also important that we never hesitate to approach our teachers for assistance. Remember! Not to compare yourself with other students, as each one is unique and has their own capability and talent.
