From KG II-A, till XII-B. For 13 whole years, I had the privilege to call DPS Dubai my school, my second home. And today, as someone who finished school and got their results a mere 2 months ago, I can proudly say, I dearly love and miss school, my second home.
From the alphabets, to reading, to debating, our school has taught me all I know. Somewhere between being fascinated by red litmus paper turning blue, to watching the NO2 fumes in awe (they’re toxic, don’t watch them), we all grew up.
And that is my advice to our junior batches. Your seniors miss the good old days, and now all we can do is bask in the good memories we made while in school. Granted, we lost one whole year to the pandemic, we missed our last annual day, even our senior trip. These were simultaneously the longest and shortest 13.5 years of our lives. But from the bottom of our hearts, we would not trade our school experience for anything in the world.
So, to the junior batches who are reading this- cherish these school days. You’ll miss the song that plays on the announcement system in the morning, you’ll miss Rachna Ma’am’s voice guiding you through the morning prayers, you’ll miss your teachers and the ways they taught you, you’ll miss seeing those familiar faces of your friends in class and in bus everyday, you’ll miss the greenfield, you’ll miss the canteen, you’ll miss the labs, you’ll miss working on decorating your class and the outside board, you’ll miss the routine school gave you, you’ll miss the MUNs, the annual days, the school trips and you’ll definitely miss the
teeny-tiny little things that made school, home. As Pam Beesly from ‘The Office’ wisely said, “There’s a lot of beauty in ordinary things. Isn’t that kind of the point?”
Even as I speak to my friends now, we mutually agree that we would trade anything in the world, in a heartbeat, just to relive our school life. Funnily though, the most ordinary days are the ones that we all hold closest to our hearts.
To the junior batches- your time in school is finite. Use it wisely. Study, play, laugh, grow and bloom to your fullest potential. Spend time with your teachers, talk to them, they’re really some of the best people, will always be there for you, and will always want the best for you. Make as many memories as you can, be there for your friends, leave your class sometimes, have meaningful relationships, make inside jokes, play games, explore yourself, try new
activities, grow not only academically, but emotionally, too. If you fall, that’s okay too. You’ll only learn from your experiences.
The chaos of it all is not easy. The assignments, the exams, the projects, the emotions- having your plate full is most definitely not easy. But is it worth it? A thousand percent yes.
To the Classes of 2023, 2024, 2025, so on and so forth, one day soon, when you graduate from school, you’ll realise, the roller coaster was truly worth it.
