After home, Delhi Private School-Dubai is where I spent most of my childhood and has shaped the character I have developed over the years. DPS Dubai, in its mission, encourages independent learning and innovative solutions under Academic Excellence. Furthermore, themes of the past academic years have revolved around creativity. For instance, the theme for the Academic Year 2018-2019 was ‘Global High-Five,’ which included thinking creatively. Therefore, emphasizing how the element of innovation and creativity is critical for problem-solving skills and helps foster new, potential, and versatile ideas.
The Annual Day(s) held towards the end of the academic year is not just a presentation of students’ talent additionally yet a celebration of their innovation and creativity. Participation in clubs throughout the year instils skills within the students that are recognized through their final performance. Ingenious techniques used by students in Mathemania and Art never fail to amaze the teachers and parents. The combination of the artistic minds of the teachers and proposals from the students lead to Showstopper and Music become the most magnificent events of the day. Thirdly, Muses Mantra and Goonj urge the students to add an x-factor to their role, making them work out of their comfort zone.
Weekly assemblies give students of different sections the opportunity of coming together and presenting before their batchmates. Concocting fresh ideas together intrigue the students, therefore passing on the same to the audience. Moreover, the Student Council election is one of the most crucial times of the year. The selection process involves giving speeches and campaigning. This permits students to get inventive with their posters and stand out.
It was a surreal experience to have been part of various extraordinary things in the past fourteen years. During my two years in the Student Council, holding posts including the Vice Sports Captain and Sports Captain taught me a lot. We suggested solutions for numerous problems considering what is best for the student body, ensured they were up to date with all the information, made schedules, and conducted the Interhouse events. My six years in the school’s Basketball team and consecutive performances on stage since the KG1 have widened my understanding of sports and dance. Producing plays for the team to win and putting forward a choreography for the crowd to appreciate requires teachers and students to bring about unconventional schemes by analysing and reflecting. Several years of doing so have advanced my critical thinking and imaginative skills.
Practicing flipped classes has motivated richer content. Through the guidance of teachers, students maintain the ability to teach and learn. This has allowed students to approach the content in several ways; usage of apps such as Nearpod and Kahoot, short videos made by students, collaborative activities, and discussions are a few. Students alter and transform the traditional teaching techniques, giving rise to better methods of understanding concepts. Lastly, the Robotics camp for students is yet another example of how DPS Dubai has taught me to embrace innovation. It is an excellent activity to stimulate curious minds. It gives the students the perfect environment to stretch their creative muscles.
Creativity and innovation are the most important terms to be followed in every organization and, DPS Dubai runs by the same. Through these skills, I have learned to test out my boundaries and, I’m prepared to take a step into the next chapter of my life.
